Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance images are created using magnetic fields coupled with computers. As with the CT scan: MRI cross sectional images can be created allowing us views into the body previously not available; the MRI can be performed on just about any body part, and; the MRI procedure is painless.

Dependent on the specific application, sometimes the CT is superior to the MRI and sometimes the MRI is superior to the CT. Your doctor or radiologist will explain which test is best in your particular situation. Some patients do report feeling a bit cramped or claustrophobic, meaning they feel "closed-in", during the procedure. Overall the MRI is usually tolerated very well.
