What is an antidelirium drug?
Confusion (delirium) is very common in critically ill patients and can be a frightening experience. These drugs help to improve the delirium that a patient may experience in the ICU. They may also have a calming or sedating effect.
Why is it given?
The doctor prescribes this drug to decrease the patient's confusion.
How long is it used?
This drug is used only as long as the patient is confused.
Does it have side effects?
Some patients experience involuntary movements while on these medicines. Infrequently they may alter the ECG reading of the heart's electrical activity. These drugs may also be sedating. Serious side effects are unusual.
